Beaches - Distance
Another day, another brilliant Australian psych-rock band. Beaches are an all-girl quintet from Melbourne, but unlike peers like Pond, Tame Impala or New Zealand-born/American-based Unknown Mortal Orchestra, their sound owes more to repetitive krautrock grooves than extended psych jams, fuzzed-out guitars, vintage synth riffs or 1970s funk. It sounds more like TOY than, say, a Ty Segall version of Warpaint; needless to say, I like it.
